Tim Seifert added 24, Daryl Mitchell 28, and Bevon Jacobs struck 31 from 16 balls, including three sixes. Michael Bracewell finished not out on seven.
New Zealand reached 65/1 at the end of the powerplay. They lost Allen at 80/2 and Mitchell at 122/3, but Phillips stayed through to the end. Jacobs’ contribution gave the innings another acceleration before he was run out at 195/4. The hosts used their full 20 overs and set India a demanding target of 226.

Samson and Abhishek give India a rapid start
The chase began with an opening partnership of 93. Abhishek Sharma scored 29 from 12 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes, before Michael Bracewell dismissed him at 5.5 overs. India still ended the powerplay at 94/1, 29 runs ahead of New Zealand’s score at the same stage.
Samson made 67 from 33 deliveries, with eight fours and four sixes, at a calculated strike rate of 203.03. Cricbuzz’s completed match page lists him as Player of the Match. His innings put India ahead early, but it did not settle the game: Mitchell Santner bowled him at 115/2, and further wickets changed the direction of the chase.
New Zealand’s spinners bring the contest back
Bracewell removed Tilak Varma for six after dismissing Abhishek, while Santner followed Samson’s wicket with that of Ishan Kishan for one. India slipped to 122/4 at 10.3 overs. Bracewell’s 2/37 and Santner’s 2/39 accounted for four of India’s six wickets, turning a dominant powerplay into a more demanding second half.
Iyer and Axar then added 45 for the fifth wicket. Axar scored 24 from 14, with three fours and a six, before Lockie Ferguson dismissed him at 167/5. Iyer continued to anchor the chase and reached 42 from 28 balls, including one four and two sixes. His dismissal to Adam Milne at 18.1 overs left India on 210/6, with the finish still to be completed.
Naman Dhir wins it in the final over
Dhir’s unbeaten 42 from 15 balls was the decisive late contribution. He hit five fours and two sixes, producing a strike rate of 280.00, and remained at the crease with Nitish Kumar Reddy, who finished on two not out. Their unbroken seventh-wicket stand added 20 runs after Iyer’s dismissal.
India were 218/6 after 19 overs and needed eight to win. Matt Henry’s final over began with a Dhir boundary, followed by a single from Dhir and a single from Reddy. Dhir then struck the fourth ball for six to finish the chase at 230/6. The sequence is recorded in Cricbuzz’s completed ball-by-ball commentary.
