Luka Modrić

Personal background

Real Madrid records Modrić’s birth in Zadar, Croatia, on 9 September 1985. FIFA says he grew up often playing football in the streets and that several clubs initially turned him down because of his slight build. The public evidence supports the sporting account without adding private family details.

Professional journey

FIFA traces the route from Dinamo Zagreb to Tottenham Hotspur and then Real Madrid; Reuters dates the Madrid move to 2012. After leaving Madrid following the 2025 Club World Cup, Modrić continued in Serie A with AC Milan. Reuters reported in July 2026 that Milan extended his contract through June 2027.

Playing career

Real Madrid’s official profile records 597 games, 43 goals and 28 trophies for Modrić. Its honours list includes six European Cups, six Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and five Spanish Super Cups. Croatia reached the 2018 World Cup final and finished third in 2022.

Playing style

The sources consistently describe a midfielder whose technique and tactical intelligence improve the team’s control. FIFA highlights his outside-of-the-foot trivela. UEFA’s retrieved Nations League snapshot lists 207 minutes and 90% passing accuracy; that is a competition-specific snapshot, not a universal career rate.

Setbacks and comebacks

The documented setbacks are early doubts about his slight build and Croatia’s 2018 final defeat. Croatia returned to the World Cup podium with third place in 2022. This profile does not add an unsupported injury narrative.

Post-playing work

Modrić has not retired, so no post-playing career is established. His active status is supported by the AC Milan extension through June 2027 and Croatia’s September 2026 confirmation that he remained available for selection.

Public ventures

Swansea City announced in April 2025 that Modrić joined as an investor and co-owner. The announcement does not disclose an investment amount or ownership percentage. This ownership evidence is kept separate from any endorsement or brand-ambassador claim.
